Osa

Rescue sometimes means taking a chance when you don’t know how the story will end.

Yesterday, we were asked to take in Osa, a beautiful 5-month-old Cocker Spaniel who had suddenly begun having cluster seizures.

Her family could no longer afford the emergency care and testing she needed, and we knew saying yes could mean thousands of dollars in hospitalization, medications, diagnostics, neurology and possibly an MRI.

We also knew there was a chance we might not get the outcome we hoped for.

But she was 5 months old.

And we wanted to try.

Osa was hospitalized and received around-the-clock care, extensive bloodwork, testing and medications under the amazing care of WAG ER.

For a while, we were hopeful.

Then today, she began having multiple severe grand mal seizures and was struggling more and more to recover between them.

The kindest decision became the hardest one.

We chose to let Osa go peacefully.

She was only with us for a very short time, but we took a chance on her because she deserved one.

MBPR is still responsible for the emergency hospitalization, testing, medications and care provided while we tried to save her.

Sometimes rescue gives us the happy ending.

Sometimes it means making sure a little dog is safe, loved and never suffers alone.

That was our promise to Osa.
