Meet Calamari — “Cal”

We’re so excited to share that Mission Bay Puppy Rescue has now partnered with Animal Friends of the Valley in Temecula, and Cal is the very first puppy we’ve welcomed from them.

And what a first story he has.

On September 11, Cal was brought to the shelter by a Good Samaritan who had found him inside a kennel, wrapped in a tent. At first, they feared he wasn’t alive.

Thankfully, he was.

He was frightened, unsure, and had no idea what was happening — but from that moment forward, his life began to change. The wonderful team at Animal Friends of the Valley cared for him, loved him, and kept him safe.

Ten days later, Cal became a Mission Bay Puppy Rescue puppy.

When we first picked him up at the shelter and held him, his little body trembled and shook. He was scared and uncertain.

But then we brought him home.

We introduced him to the Pack, gave him a warm bath, lots of love…and suddenly, everything changed.

Cal relaxed almost immediately. He started playing with the other puppies, soaking up affection, exploring his new surroundings and acting as though nothing bad had ever happened to him.

What a difference love, safety and a few puppy friends can make.

Cal is the sweetest little boy. He is affectionate, playful, curious and absolutely loving all the attention he is getting. Watching his personality come alive has been such a joy.

We believe Cal is about 7½ weeks old, he will be ready for adoption this weekend.

His beginning may have been frightening, but that is not going to define his story.

From a kennel wrapped in a tent…

to warm blankets, puppy friends, belly rubs and a whole new life ahead of him.
