Meet Macy – A Brave Little Soul on Her Way to Healing We received a call from the San Diego Humane Society asking if we could help with a very fearful and reactive 3-month-old Dachshund/Retriever mix. Macy was surrendered to the shelter with the report that she was aggressive and terrified of people. For two days, the rescue team at SDHS spent time with her in their office, helping her decompress with anti-anxiety meds and quiet companionship. Slowly, she began to let her guard down—but she remained highly reactive to new people. We knew taking in Macy would require time, love, and lots of patience. And we were ready. When Macy first arrived at our rescue, she wouldn’t leave her crate. She lunged, growled, and even nipped at our hands and fingers when we tried to connect. But this morning, something changed. With the help of her favorite treats (thank goodness she’s food-motivated!), she bravely stepped out of her crate and cautiously accepted them from our hands. Fast forward just two hours—and this once-frightened little girl was wagging her tail, playing joyfully with Koa and Peaches, and soaking up every bit of affection we had to offer. Her new favorite spot? Curled up in our laps, finally feeling safe. We could cry seeing how quickly Macy has started to trust. It’s a beautiful reminder that with love and patience, even the most fearful pups can blossom. Macy will need a home that understands where she came from and is committed to continuing her journey of healing. At this time, we recommend a quieter home with adults or families with older children. She’s great with other dogs and we believe she’d be fine with cats too. If you think you might be the right match for Macy, please complete our adoption application. Note: We will be accepting applications for the next few days and will carefully choose the family we believe will be the best fit for her continued growth and happiness. Let’s find this brave little girl the loving home she deserves.
